WHAT DOES LICENSING MEAN? |
| THE SISVEL ACTIVITY FOR THE TOP SYSTEM |
SISVEL has received from the IRT (Institute für Rundfunktechnik) of Munich Germany the task to grant licences on the patents of the TOP system. The IRT is a research and development institute in the field of radio and television that groups all the most important German language radio and television broadcasters. The TOP System (Table of Pages) is a particularly advanced method of managing the teletext pages used by some radio and television broadcasters. The pages of the teletext service can be glanced through in a particularly convenient and friendly way through the use of a decoder specifically predisposed, avoiding long and often unnecessary waits, and without memory efforts for remembering the numbers of the pages that are of interest. The TOP service has been in use for several years by German language and central European television broadcasters; on 14 th January 1998 it was introduced to Italy by RAI ( Radiotelevisione Italiana ) (see the teletext page that announces the event). Anyone possessing a satellite receiver and a television set with a TOP teletext decoder can receive the TOP teletext service in all Europe. SISVEL has carried out and continues to carry out an intense campaign in order to promote the adoption of such system by the radio and television broadcasters as well as by manufacturers of television sets produced or commercialized in Europe and in the rest of the world.
